Abingdon & Witney College

Demco Interiors has refurbished the existing library at the Abingdon Campus at Abingdon and Witney College, into a bright, light Resource Centre

The College is a general Further Education College with over 2,000 full time and 3,000 part time students. It also has over 300 higher education students based across the three main sites.

The College has received over £30 million in grants from the Skills Funding Agency and is part way through a three-year refurbishment project, which includes the Abingdon site transformation.

Demco won the tender to reconfigure the interior space and the upstairs now has calm white shelving, matching flexi-desking for quiet study, wall based PC benching and plenty of space to spread out for group working. Downstairs informal, co-working zones are decked out with sofas and chairs, space saving sawtooth IT benching, bar height workstations, low level curved shelving and staff counter.

The College library team visited the Design Hub at Demco’s Rushden headquarters, for an interactive design day, looking at colours, fabrics and tweaking designs as ideas developed. Steve Beasant, Lead Designer, Demco Interiors said: ÔÇ£The agenda for an intensive co-creation day was to look at options and choices and build these into the initial designs and layout. The design process is never finite and working together around the table means we can consider everyone’s ideas and see what works and what doesn’tÔÇØ. The design day was followed up with a further site visit to clarify all colours with the College Design Team and Architect.

There was one element of this project that was a first for Demco; they sourced and supplied the dog bed in the Student Centre that will be a home for the College dog!
