The ┬ú188.8 million Library of Birmingham is located in Birmingham’s Centenary Square and is expected to attract over 10,000 visitors a day. At 31,000 sq. metres it is around 20% larger than the old Central Library building and is the largest public library in Europe.
Designed by Dutch architects Mecanoo, the largely transparent and light-filled facade is laced with delicate metal filigree that reference Birmingham’s industrial and artisinal past.
The Library is physically connected to the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, sharing a spacious entrance, foyer and flexible studio theatre seating 300 people.
Demco worked with Carillion plc on the interiors fit out of the Library and foyer areas of the Repertory Theatre.
